Mabuasehube Trail

Mabuasehube is the eastern side of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, located in the Kalahari region of Botswana. It is known for its remote wilderness, rugged terrain, and quiet, uncrowded campsites situated around a series of salt pans.

What to expect

True wilderness experience: No fences, minimal development, and abundant wildlife such as lions, leopards, hyenas, and antelopes.

Salt pans: Including Mabuasehube, Khiding, Mpayathutlwa, Bosobogolo, and others. Each offering scenic campsites with views over the pans.

Self-drive paradise: Ideal for off-road enthusiasts; 4×4 vehicles are required.

Cross-border access: You can travel between Botswana and South Africa through the park if you have the correct permits.

Long-drop toilets

Bucket showers

No water at most camps (travel with your own supply)

No fuel, shop, restaurant, or service station in the Mabuasehube area.

Activities

DAY 1: Gaborone → Jwaneng / Sekoma / Tsabong
Meet up at Gaborone at 7:00 am from where we will proceed to Jwaneng / Sekoma /Tsabong.

DAY 2: Tsabong → Mabuasehube Gate → Mabuasehube Pan
Distance: ±150 km
Drive time: 4–5 hours (deep sand)  Overnight camp at Mabuasehube Pan 

DAY 3: Explore Mabuasehube Pans
Spend the day doing short game loops.

Key areas to explore:

Mabuasehube Pan
Lesholoago Pan
Khiding Pan

Expect: lions, hyenas, jackals, oryx, and possibly leopards.
